Right now there's a beautiful pair of 288C's on eBay (#3074148274). The guy claims an Altec dealer replace the diaphragms with a matched pair. The little Maestro with "288" to his right are on the dome. The close-up of the diaphragms reveals printing (stamping?) on the lips of the diaphragms, "ALTEC LANSING CORP", "14-20-035414", and "TAIWAN". I've never noticed this before. It all made sense until I saw TAIWAN. Did Altec farm out mfg. to parts of Asia?

There was a time when AL purchased the black plastic ring from a supplier who was having them made in an injection molding shop in Taiwan. Only the ring was made there - everything else was made by AL in OKC.

The rings GPA currently uses are made in the USA.
